This Shaker style maple kitchen was made by six students as part of the Cabinetmaking Career Training program at New England School of Architectural Woodworking in 2011. Each student had a specific area of the kitchen to design, draft, select and mill wood for, build, and finish: mine was the island. The island has pull-out doors for four separate trash containers (Northampton's recycling system is a little complicated), dovetailed silverware drawers, bookmatched panels, an overhanging countertop for seating, and an electrical outlet. Building of the butcher-block top was led by classmate Marion Goodsell.
